Unicamp Lifeguards
The Lifeguard will embody the ideals and spirit of Unicamp. They will be in charge of all waterfront activities and ensuring that safety requirements are met. They will assist with programming for the children's, junior youth, and/or family camps. The Lifeguards report to the Camp Director and the Program Director.Responsibilities include:
- Working as part of a team,
- Facilitating staff development and accountability,
- Planning, conducting and assisting with waterfront activities,
- Following Unicamp rules and policies,
- Supervising the safety and well-being of campers at the waterfront,
- Training staff on waterfront safety procedures,
- Handling minor incidents and behaviours between campers in a positive manner,
- Reporting more serious problems and work with senior staff to resolve camper/staff issues,
- Ensuring that Unicamp has an adequate supply of waterfront safety equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Member of a Unitarian Universalist Congregation,
- Program, counseling, teaching, and/or RE experience,
- Good interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills,
- Familiarity with Unicamp,
- Previous camp, community, or conference centre experience,
- Good organizational skills,
- Bronze Medallion/Lifeguarding certification or above, CPR, and first-aid (necessary),
- Babysitting certificate.
Conditions of employment and salary:
- $225 per week plus room and board X2-4 weeks, for Kids' and Junior Youth Camps or a portion thereof,
- One day off per week,
- Work week runs Sunday until Saturday, unless otherwise noted. Please arrive Saturday and get picked up Sunday,
- Attendance of Staff Training Week is mandatory and paid as a half-week.
