Unicamp Assistant Director


The Assistant Director will embody the ideals and spirit of Unicamp. S/he will work closely with the Camp Director to ensure smooth running of camp. This position requires working with Programming, Administration, Maintenqnce and Operations. Flexibility and initiative are essential in this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating staff development and accountability,
  • Working as a team member,
  • Ensuring Unicamp rules and policies are understood and followed,
  • Provide assistance in the office with reception and registration duties.
  • Inventories and tracks essential supplies,
  • Helping to develop manuals for the running of camp,
  • Working the Camp Director to support the other Senior Staff members,
  • Ensuring that all camp accommodation and shared facilities are maintained in a clean and habitable condition and that cottages and dorms are kept appropriately furnished,
  • To inventory, plan and shop for supplies as needed,
  • Relieving other management staff as needed on their days off,
  • Implementing KP schedules and teach procedures,
  • Making security checks of the property at suitable intervals,
  • Assisting with any repairs or maintenance projects as time and skills permit,
  • Schedule, supervise and train Camp Workers, monitor their work and behaviour and prepare performance evaluations as required,
  • Plan and implement all camp general recreational activities (hikes, cave tours, coffee-houses, discussions).
  • Liaise closely with the Program Facilitators to meet their needs and ensure that all guests have reasonable access to facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Member of a Unitarian Universalist Congregation,
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills,
  • Administration and book-keeping experience,
  • Programming and volunteer coordination/management experience,
  • Familiarity with Unicamp,
  • Previous camp, community, or conference centre experience,
  • Good organizational skills,
  • Good computer and telephone skills.

Conditions of employment and salary:

  • $450 per week X 9 weeks full-time, late June to Labour Day. Specific dates to be negotiated upon signing of contract.
  • Off season work to be negotiated on an individual basis,
  • Two days off per week, not during weekends,
  • Work week runs Sunday until Saturday, unless otherwise noted.
  • This position reports to the Camp Director.
